Belgium: public sector and businesses, in French and Dutch

In Belgium, digital accessibility is regulated at federal, regional and community level. The public sector has been subject to it since 2018, and businesses offering services covered by the EAA since June 2025.

A shared competence

The federal government, the Regions and the Communities have each adopted legislation for the bodies under their authority. The principle remains the same: your websites and apps must comply with EN 301 549 and you must publish an accessibility statement.

Businesses and the EAA

Since 28 June 2025, businesses offering consumers services covered by the EAA — e-commerce, banking, transport, telecommunications — must make them accessible. Microenterprises providing services are exempt.

Why a bilingual audit

A bilingual site must be accessible in each language: language attributes, translated content, text alternatives. Our auditors test your French and Dutch versions and deliver reports in your teams' language.

This page outlines the main points of the applicable framework. It does not constitute legal advice: the texts and how they are applied may change.
