Switzerland: LHand, eCH-0059 and your European customers

Switzerland is not a member of the European Union, so the EAA does not apply there directly. But Swiss companies serving European consumers are subject to it, and administrations follow the eCH-0059 standard.

Law
Disability Discrimination Act (LHand)
Standard
eCH-0059, based on WCAG level AA
Public sector
The Confederation, and cantons according to their own rules
Businesses
Covered by the EAA if they sell in the EU

For administrations

The Confederation applies the eCH-0059 standard to its websites and apps. Several cantons and municipalities draw on it. We audit against this standard, in French, German or Italian.

For businesses selling in the EU

A Swiss online store, bank or transport operator offering its services to consumers in the European Union must comply with the European Accessibility Act in those markets.

This page outlines the main points of the applicable framework. It does not constitute legal advice: the texts and how they are applied may change.
